New DECORAZØN Artist, LIZ BARBER

We’re thrilled to welcome LIZ BARBER to the DECORAZON family.

Liz Barber is a distinguished contemporary artist known for her light-infused paintings inspired by the ocean and water. Soft & sultry vibrant abstracts will sweep you away.

Barber studied painting at the Massachusetts College of Art and Moore College of Art in Philadelphia, and currently is based in Georgia, USA. Barber’s method is varied, first using ink, gouache and watercolour to lay the foundation of the artwork. These translucent “footprints” are manipulated and circulated around to form the composition. She uses graphite and oil pastel to create drawn elements. Mark making plays a big role in the language of Barber’s work while also acting as a resting place for the eye.

Canadian-born artist Ramona Nordal began her art exploration at Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design in Vancouver, British Columbia. Here she studied lithography, color theory, painting and drawing and later focused on anatomy drawing and painting. Color theory has always been a huge part of Nordal’s process and is quickly becoming known for her richly evocative color pallet. The central theme that unites all of her work is the mixture of the traditional with the unconventional. Her work is a representation  of her interest in the human form, pop art culture and capturing the presence of her subjects. Nordal is hyper aware of art's relationship with human emotion and her subjects reflect this as they captivate you and entice you into their world. Her work can be found in Canada, the United States, Mexico, Australia, Honk Kong and Europe.

"Technology and accessibility is what I also attribute to offering the most rewarding aspects of being an artist today. I enjoy making the object of a painting. From building the canvas to hanging a finished painting on the wall. It’s been done for hundreds of years and it hasn’t changed much. In my opinion - it’s one of the few things that you just can’t improve upon."

DECORAZON is pleased to introduce our newest artists: Patsy McArthur, Ryder Richards and Yun Hee Lee.

Scottish artist, Patsy McArthur explores the graceful and powerful movement of people in her rich under water painted scenes. Her latest works, from very small ink studies to large oil paintings, convey a palpable sense of strength, freedom and suspension.

American artist, Ryder Richards, combines his passion for cultural community exchange and explores art through object making, with the subject matter often derived from his interest in the conflicts in cultural violence, information handling, and power distribution with subsequent voids.

YunHee Lee is rapidly becoming one of the most popular South Korean young ceramic artists. She creates exquisite hand-made ceramic sculptures. She has been resident artist at Clayarch Gimhae Museum. In 2013, the Gyeonggi International Ceramic Biennale selected her as one of the 20 'Hot Rookies' artists, among other young global talents from China, USA, Germany, France and Spain. She uses both Western and Eastern influences, creating a style of her own that is striking, unique and undoubtedly contemporary.

Record Breaker Rosie Emerson!

On Sunday August 3, 2014, Rosie Emerson broke the photography world record for the largest Cyanotype!

She created the world's largest cyanotype at 46.81 square meters! The image took just three minutes to expose in the sun after Emerson arranged an array of models and props on a light-sensitive canvas. The project was commissioned by the Hackney WickED Arts Festival in London. Decorazon artist, Rosie Emerson, has lived and worked in Hackney Wick, for the past 5 years.

Cyanotype printing was developed in the early 19th Century and used by engineers to reproduce notes and diagrams known as blue prints. Influenced by botanist Anna Atkins who brought this technique into photography, Emerson’s recent work has adapted the cyanotype technique and given her own modern spin.

Cyanotype photographs are produced by placing the object or a negative onto paper, which has been coated, in a UV light sensitive emulsion, the work exposes to the sun, the result is a deep Prussian blue photograph.
