At their simplest, bridges are objects that facilitate passage over an obstacle. From the strictly functional, to those that integrate thoughtful design and form, bridges inhabit a diverse spectrum of form, functionality, and public consciousness. Some bridges manage to achieve iconic status, as evidenced by those that transcend the everyday to captivate imaginations and serve as visual, even societal, landmarks. Working primarily in reclaimed substrates and materials, Hugo Garcia Urrutia and MK Semos use this metaphor in relating this body of work, Crossing Bridges.
