Artist Statement:

All of my experiences on this journey have culminated into what has become my career in painting. A background in music contributed ideas of transition, and the harmony of different elements to make one single experience. Photography greatly influenced composition and technique. Textile design taught me the importance of color and texture.

I must also mention the artists I have met along the way whose conversations and discussions on art continue to motivate and inspire me. I am grateful for everyday I get to spend exploring paint.

In 2002, Michele Mikesell earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts with a minor in graphic design from Texas Women's University in Denton, TX. Mikesell completed her Master of Fine Arts at the University of Oklahoma in Norman in 2004. Mikesell is a Dallas Artist who lives and works in Oak Cliff and she is currently represented by Chiaroscuro, Sante Fe; JRB Gallery, Oklahoma City; Altered Space Gallery, Los Angeles; Guthrie Contemporary, New Orleans and DECORAZON Gallery in Dallas. Mikesell's work can be found in many private and corporate collections including Warner Brothers Studios and Capitol Records.

A constant theme of dichotomies and comparisons of the animal to discuss the Human Condition is found in her work, which can focus on the circus, fairy tales, or even the English language. These animals, which are sometimes portrayed as studio portraits, tell stories of culture, personal struggle and the metaphors that tie the human race together. Written with a dark irony and somewhat sardonic sense of humor, these are stories we know and characters we recognize and can relate to.
