DECORAZON
gallery is proud to present artist, James Gasowski.
“My
art is fueled by a desire to create, by way of line and color, a
language of symbols and mark-making that allows me the absolute
freedom to speak of the art of living and the act of painting as
one in the same; a poetry of being. This poetry can be hard, fast,
quiet, chaotic, ordered, simple and complex all at once. It can
be in black and white, shades of grey, or full of living color.
That is the language of life.”
-- James Gasowski
Living color
very much describes the work of James Gasowski, born in San Francisco,
California, in 1954. It is also a very accurate description of this
thoughtful and soulful artist’s life. In 1972, he joined the
military and while in the service decided to take the route of an
artist instead. So in 1976, he moved back to California and began
his education at San Francisco State University, before attending
the Academy Of Art, also in San Francisco.
With an exciting opportunity to relocate to Europe, he left art
school and headed for Kiel, Germany in 1980, where he began to paint
and study art on his own. In Europe, after a profound and deeply
spiritual experience, he created a personal, symbolic art called
“Art Humanity”. Over the course of the next 10 years
he traveled between Europe, California, and New York developing
and showing his art. Finally, in 1996, he moved to Santa Fe, New
Mexico, where he resides today.
James Gasowski’s art has grown from the spiritual symbolism
of his early work through geometrical abstraction, to the calligraphic
mark-making of his present work.
He has recently shown in Santa Fe at the Center for Contemporary
Art, Gallery Zipp, Phil Space Gallery and at Decorazon Gallery in
Dallas.
He is currently represented by Decorazon Gallery in Dallas, Texas
and Winterowd Gallery in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
